Siena might look like simple opponents for Milan on paper, but recent events mean it should be anything but an easy win at the San Siro. The Rossoneri are looking almost as shaky as their city rivals Inter at the moment, while their Tuscan opponents have kicked off the season on top form.
Milan’s troubles stem from the claims of numerous bust-ups between Coach Carlo Ancelotti and his players. Just days after a pitchside confrontation with Brazilian Kaka, he was caught on camera arguing with Clarence Seedorf during the disappointing draw with Livorno. Add to that the recurring criticisms from the terraces of Carletto’s squad rotation system and things are far from settled at the Rossoneri.
But despite those worrying signs Milan are still undefeated and, with the exception of the forgivable if unexpected draw at fortress Livorno, they would still have a 100 per cent record. Four matches into the season they are moving steadily up the table after wiping out their Calciopoli penalty immediately and putting themselves two points into the positive.
Ancelotti is again expected to rest some his players due to the fixture congestion caused by the Champions League. Andrea Pirlo and Alberto Gilardino are both unlikely to feature after their mid-week exertions and Serginho is out through injury. Paolo Maldini and Yoann Gourcuff should both be fit to play after missing the European match, although the latter may have to be content with a place on the bench due to Massimo Ambrosini’s impressive form.
Siena will be without new signing Paul Codrea who is not due back from injury for around a month. More concerning though will be the suspension of influential defender Daniele Portanova after his red card against Cagliari. That means Leandro Rinaudo should get another chance to prove himself with the Tuscan outfit after his summer move from Palermo. Mario Frick and Enrico Chiesa are expected to start as the forward pair ahead of the out of sorts Erjon Bogdani.
Despite failing to earn a win on home soil this season, Siena currently hold a 100 per cent record on their travels after wins over Torino and Chievo. While Milan will undoubtedly be a much harder task, the Robur will still be confident of going one better than their Tuscan compatriots Livorno managed on Sunday. With Milan’s perfect home record hosting Siena’s equally spotless away form, it should be a tense encounter at the San Siro.
